Strathmore, Alyth and Blairgowrie

Central Perth has some fantastic golf venues and we are regular visitors to this part of Scotland.   For the Scottish Junior Masters we stay at Nethercraig Holiday Park which is a short journey away from the wonderful courses at Strathmore, Blairgowrie and Alyth.  A little bit more remote, the spacious campsite is situated in a lovely part of the country and is perfect for golf, relaxing, walking and has some spectacular countryside right on the doorstep.   Blairgowrie is a great place to spend some time stocking up or browsing the shops.   But also has two wonderful courses in the Rosemount and Lansdowne at Blairgowrie Golf Club.

Scottish Mens @ Muirfield

One of the most iconic golfing destinations in the world was the venue for this years Scottish Mens Championship.  And what a venue it was.   The course was amazing and the clubhouse was an extremely fascinating and wonderful place to be all week.   The food exceptional and the history all around on display added to the experience.   We camped at Yellowcraig just along the road and when not golfing, loved the atmosphere, restaurants and pubs of North Berwick.  Fantastic weather helped make an amazing week.

Portpatrick

Dunskey Golf Course

The first Junior Tour event of the season was quite a drive from the North of Scotland, but well worth it.   A lovely harbour town, there are a couple of campsites to choose from nearby.   Found the harbour front expensive and lacking in quality for food, but plenty of lively drinking spots to be found.   The golf course is situated at the top of the village and well worth a visit.  It had the best value food, friendly staff and a great layout that was fun to play.   I think you could maybe squeeze a campervan in overnight in the overspill car park if you asked nicely!

Season 2023

Its almost upon us, and we are looking forward to planning the spring/summer ahead....

After what has felt like a long winter, we are now looking at the various options for the season coming.   There has been numerous trips in the van, but mostly to far flung training sessions and squad days.  The VW has been great for these trips, not only on the drive to the venue, but for having somewhere to wait all day!  Lots more coming soon, please keep an eye on the blog for regular updates.

5 must do in St Andrews..

Apart from play the Old Course....
  • Visit the Jigger Inn.  Located at the Old Course hotel, you can sit outside in the beer garden and watch play on 17 and 18.
  • Jannetta's Gelataria.  For some of the best ice cream you will find, anywhere, guaranteed.
  • Shop at Auchterlonies.   Fantastic golf shopping to be found only a 50ft putt away from the 18th green.
  • Get your wine from Luvians bottle shop.  If you fancy a fine drop of wine, or whisky for that matter, this is the place to find it!
  • Park up at the East Sands, pop open a bottle, or just a fancy coffee and enjoy the view!

Fortrose on the Black Isle - Junior Tour

Our first visit to Fortrose did not disappoint.   We chose the smaller of the two campsites, both of which are within walking distance of the golf club.   And what a golf club.  Great challenge, especially the first 4 holes.  Slightly more easier after that, but all that will depend on the breeze I suppose.   Views are spectacular and we even managed to see the dolphins as they paid a visit to wow the many spectators.

A warm welcome was found in the clubhouse with a wide and tasty menu on offer.   Definitely worth a visit and only a short walk back to the van afterwards.

Visit in to the village a must.   The bar @ https://www.theanderson.co.uk worth a visit but please please dont pass up the opportunity to eat at IV10 Bar and Deli.  One of the best to be found in the Highlands!
